Every year there are a ton of wildfires were I live in Texas have bulldogs.Air quality and temperature are very important things to monitor when you have bulldogs because they are brachycephalic, meaning they have a short skull, and the flat face and short airway can really put them in danger quickly in the event of a wildfire– especially since my dogs both struggle with other health issues as well. So I needed a solution for our go bag and landed on these to go oxygen cans from Boost Oxygen

These cans are 95% pure supplemental oxygen sold over the counter, no prescription needed and each can gives you at least 100 one0second bursts of air. One-second bursts does seem a little short to me, but that’s what they advertise so we are rolling with it.

Whenever you read anything about first aid, they beat the ABC’s of it into your soul: Airway, Breathing, Circulation! Airway, Breathing, Circulation! Now that we have the oxygen cans, I feel more confident in being able to potentially save my dogs more effectively.  I also want to note here that these cans are not made specifically for dogs, they are made for humans but I found this to be the best solution for my pets too.

When I first fot the cans, I tested them on myself first and realized that I had bought Eucalyptus-flavored cans– it was not a pleasant experience and I would highly advise against that flavor it’s been 6 months and I still can’t seem to shake the taste of Eucalyptus. I quickly went and ordered some unflavored cans– definitely did not want to shoot Eucalyptus down my dogs’ lungs.

I will say there is a slight learning curve but you can figure out how to use them pretty quickly. I recommend getting an extra can so that you can practice and perfect using these cans. Trust me, though, after a few trigger pulls you will start to figure out how to pull back slowly and reduce the air speed and the noise from the can. If you plan to use these for your dogs, make sure to get the hang of it on yourself first and then practice on your dog so that they can start getting used to it. Tip; I put a little peanut butter on the nozzle and then gently pull the trigger and the air go inside while my dogs are distracted licking up the peanut butter.

As I mentioned earlier, I know I spoke a lot about using this product on my dogs, but this absolutely works for two-legged members of your household as well. It can be particularly helpful for people with breathing, cardiac, or fitness issues. It can also be helpful when hiking especially in high altitudes.

Overall, I can’t measure exactly how effective these cans are, especially for animals, but I can say that it makes be feel a lot more confident in being able to take care of both my pets and my family should I need too. It brings me a little peace of mind.

Overall, I do not guarantee that the oxygen cans will do a ton for you or your dogs/animals. I can say with 100% certainty that you will feel like you did something very proactive for the. There are so quite a few items that I put into my bag that are “just in case” but the oxygen makes me feel like I did something very solid for the ones I love.
