Camping, Hiking, climbing, and all the amazing outdoor adventures come with their own set of risks. Luckily, we have the right tools to keep you safe.

First Aid

A Simple first aid kit doesn’t need to take up a ton of space but can be a lifesaver. You want it to have bandages, blister bandages, styptic powder, a tourniquet, tape and gauze, Benadryl, and acetaminophen.

Shelter

You don’t need a tent and all the accessories in most outdoor activities but, an emergency tent and blanket can save your life. There are hammocks that fit into a small bag and blankets that are the size of a credit card. If you get stuck, tie up your hammock and wrap up in a thermal blanket or a bivy bag. Staying warm and off the cold, wet ground is best.

Water

If you are adventuring near a body of water, a Life Straw can be a great helper. Liquid IV or Max Hydration packets also take up little room and help the water you have on hand be more effective.

Food

It’s recommended to have enough food for 3 days, but when adventuring outdoors it can be hard to pack and carry that much food. No worries, you can easily rely on things like protein bars and  jerky that won’t take up a lot of room but will leave you satisfied.

Navigation

An old fashioned map is the best thing to carry, but you can also print out maps and make your own navigation booklet. Second best choice is a compass, but if you have no experience using it then make sure to take a handheld GPS

Fire

You don’t want to be left without a fire when you need it most. A magnesium fire starter is waterproof and fairly easy to use. Make sure you practice beforehand, or take a permanent match

Signaling

Depending on the terrain and drought conditions you can use a flare, but if inexperienced you run the risk of setting something on fire.  A signal mirror and a whistle can be just as effective but less dangerous to you. Go with what you feel is the easiest for you to operate.

Multi Tool

Every outdoorsman needs a multitool! Swiss Army, Leatherman and Gerber have great multitools. Most multitools have some mixture of: knife, saw, scissor, toothpick, corkscrew, tweezers, and sometimes even eating utensils.

If you’re planning an outdoor adventure, you will have more fun if you know you have all the essentials packed– and the good news is you don’t even have to sacrifice a lot of space to be prepared! Just keep this list handy and you’ll be ready to adventure onward with ease.
